Zharey (Afghanistan)
Des artilleurs de la Batterie X du 5e Régiment d'artillerie légère du Canada (5 RALC) préparent leurs canons M777 de 155 mm pour tirer près du village de Zharey, en Afghanistan. Le 5 RALC fait partie du Groupement tactique de la Force opérationnelle interarmées.
La Force armée (Afghanistan), Roto 4, comprend 2 500 membres du personnel des Forces canadiennes provenant principalement d'éléments du 5e Groupe-brigade mécanisée du Canada de Valcartier, Québec. La FOI-Afgha sous les ordres du Brigadier-général Guy Laroche est déployée dans la province de Kandahar, Afghanistan et fait partie de la Force de sécurité et d'assistance internationale (FIAS). Les soldats canadiens jouent un rôle clé dans la mission conduite par l'OTAN pour améliorer la sécurité et appuyer la reconstruction du pays.
Le Canada est en Afghanistan à la demande des Nations-unies qui retransmettait ainsi l'appel à un appui international du gouvernement démocratiquement élu d'Afghanistan. Cette mission de l'OTAN est sanctionnée par l'ONU et vise à aider à bâtir un pays stable, démocratique et une société auto-suffisante en Afghanistan.

Gunners from the 5e Régiment d’artillerie légère du Canada (5 RALC), X Battery, preparing their 155mm M777 cannons for firing near the village of Zharey, Afghanistan. 5 RALC is part of the Joint Task Force Battle Group.
Joint Task Force Afghanistan (JTF-Afg), Roto 4, is made up of 2,500 Canadian Forces soldiers originating mainly from elements of 5 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group (5 CMBG) based at CFB Valcartier, Quebec. JTF-Afg, under the command of Brigadier-General Guy Laroche, has been deployed to Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, and forms part of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF). Canadian soldiers are playing a key role in the NATO-led mission to improve security and assist in rebuilding the country.
Canada is in Afghanistan at the request of the UN, which has reissued a call to the international community to support Afghanistan’s democratically elected government. The aim of the UN-sanctioned NATO mission is to help build a stable, democratic and self-sufficient society in the country.
